If you’re growing a business, chances are you’ve already mastered a lot.
You’re great at what you do. You show up for your clients. You juggle the work, the marketing, the decisions.
But money? That still feels messy.
I see this often with women in business. You’re working hard, but your finances don’t reflect the effort. You’re not sure what to focus on, where your money’s going, or how to plan for the future.
This isn’t about working harder. It’s about focusing on what matters most.
After two decades working in finance and business coaching, these are the three priorities I return to again and again.
They’re not fancy. But they work.
1. Know Your Numbers and Build a Strong Financial System
If your finances feel vague or reactive, start here.
You can’t make confident decisions if you don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.
That means:
- Knowing what’s coming in, going out, and what’s left
- Understanding how your cash flows each month
- Using simple systems that make things easier, not harder
You don’t need a finance degree.
You just need a clear, consistent setup bookkeeping, cloud accounting, and a regular check-in with your numbers.
This isn’t just admin. It’s clarity. It’s control.
2. Prioritise Profit Over Sales
Chasing revenue is common.
But revenue doesn’t pay your salary, fund your future, or protect your peace of mind. Profit does.
Start by asking:
- What are my actual business costs?
- How much do I want to pay myself?
- What do I need to keep after expenses and tax?
From there, set goals that reflect your needs not just what sounds impressive.
It’s not about making more. It’s about making the right money for your business to thrive.
3. Plan for Long-Term Stability, Not Just Survival
You didn’t build your business to be stuck in survival mode.
So don’t wait to create financial stability.
- Pay yourself regularly, even if it’s small
- Set aside money for tax, savings, or slower months
- Think ahead to your future pensions, investments, safety nets
Your business should support your life, not swallow it.
Planning ahead gives you breathing space. It helps you make decisions from confidence, not fear.
These three areas foundation, profit, and planning are what help women in business move from stress to strategy.
They give you a clearer picture of your finances
They help you lead your business instead of just running after it
And they create space for the kind of growth that lasts
If you’re tired of working hard without seeing the results in your numbers, you don’t need to do it alone.
I offer strategy sessions for women in business who want to get clear on their finances and build something sustainable.
